Baird Sustainability
The second semester of my senior year of college I was awarded the Baird Sustainability Fellowship. As components of the fellowship I worked with a group to write a grant proposal, had thoughtful discussions with peers, and reflected on my sustainability experiences during college.
Grant
Working wih Hope Station
I worked in a group of three students with Hope Station, a non-profit organization in Carlisle, PA which serves to provide after school activities for children and to bring residents together as a community. We wrote a grant proposal for Hope Station to recieve funding for their annual Juneteenth Celebration, which is a celebration of the abolition of slavery in the United States.
Discussion
Different Perspectives
Consisting of students from a variety of majors, we had rich discussions with the viewpoints of multiple perspectives. Our duscussions were on a variety of sustainbility topics such as EcoModernism and international development. Through these conversations I improved my ability to speak respectfully and intelligently in a room with varying perspectives.
Reflection
Looking Back and to the Future
A third part of the fellowship entailed a reflective essay looking back at how my perspective on sustainability developed over the course of academic, professional, and personal experiences. We collectively workshopped the essays in a peer review setting.
