Classes

This is Dickinson's introductory GIS class. In it I learned the basics of GIS such as spatial referencing, symbology, data formats, aquiring and manipulating data from the field and online, editing, spatial analysis, and geoprocessing tools. I gained a familiarity working with vector and raster formats in ArcGIS, and how to make an appealing and informative map layout.

ENST 218: Geographic Informtion Systems                                                                                                                           Fall 2014
ENST 318: Advanced Applications in GIS                                                                                                                           Spring 2016

This is Dickinson's advanced GIS class. It built upon the skills I gained in the introductory class, such as ModelBuilder and raster analysis. I learned new skills such as network analysis, hydrological modelling, and spatial statistics. I gained experience in project management, and completed a semester-long independent project on using GIS to model trails.

ENV-5028B: GIS Skills for Project Work                                                                                                                            Spring 2015

This GIS class I took abroad at the University of East Anglia (<- link this too UEA page). I was able to expand on skills I learned in the introductory class at Dickinson, and learn new skills such as python and open source GIS platforms like QGIS. Additionally, I had the opportunity to complete an independent GIS project on greenspace accessibility in New York City.

Work Experience

Conferences

At the Dickinson GIS Lab I worked independently and collaboratively to assist faculty, staff, and students on GIS projects. I also would maintain evening hours to help students on their lab assignments for the two classes.

GIS Experience

I discovered a passion for GIS my junior year of college, and I am currently applying and developing my technical ability as a Server Support Analyst at Esri.

Esri User Conference 2015

I had the opportunity to attend the 2015 Esri User Conference, where I was able to expand my knowledge of the capabilities of GIS while attending sessions, meeting other students and young users of the technology, and professionals in the field. I was able to attend with funding from the EPA GRO Fellowship.

Esri Federal User Conference 2016

I attended the Esri Federal User Conference as a Student Assistant. I was selected as 1 of 20 students to participate in this program, which covers all registration and accomodation fees in exchange for part-time work. I worked registration and monitoring sessions, and during my free time I explored the exposition hall and networked with other students, Esri staff, and professionals in the field. click here to learn more about student opporunities at Esri
